                       Plan of Investigation

The title of the topic is, the negative effects of dancehall music on high school student, some task that had been done are: to research topic to find source to assist topic, gathering of three pieces of materials to support topic, meeting in group to discuss topic, gaining information for reflection, and gathering information for conclusion and oral presentation. I chose this topic because; dancehall music is highly influential and can create both negative and positive impact on our youths. The music is also a part of our culture so it would be fun exploring and learning the different ways in which it affects us as youths.

My data was collected from the link listed as a secondary source.

The English language skills used to analyze the materials are summary writing, vocabulary usage, correct language usage, paraphrasing, and reflection. Based on my research some conclusions that may be obtained are that males gravitate to violent content of music, while a female has a higher rate of promiscuity and pregnancy.

Some factors that can interfere with the soundness of this research are limited resources, inaccurate information, and plagiarism. However, one way to minimize the effects of the factors is by gathering information from a trusted website like .org and edu, as the information on them is factual.

                    Written/Group report

On November 01, 2020, we had our first group meeting. The group consisted of four members: Test1, Helpfultest2, Test2 and Helpfultest. Twelve pieces of materials, the creation of a WhatsApp group, a vote for the three best pieces, and contribution by each member to the scoring of the rubric sheet was done to complete the research.

The data were collected from secondary sources, which included online databases. All members were satisfied with the three pieces selected. However, each member voted for their favorite pieces. The votes were then tallied and the highest counts indicated the three pieces that we would work with.

All members were happy working as a group, we all agreed on how inspiring and helpful the group had been in enhancing our thinking, as different perceptions were explored. According to Test 1 “, I enjoyed this group because of how vibrant the teamwork”. Helpfultest also commented by saying! “Our good interaction makes me feel comfortable”. Test2 and Helpfultest also agreed by claiming how empowered we felt within the group.

We learned several concepts within the group as we were all active participants. We scrutinize different ideologies from each other. According to Helpfultest1, “working with this group let me understand and learn more about myself” hence we had several meetings in which we discussed the important aspect of our SBA’s.

Through our discussions, regarding the three pieces selected. According to Test2 “I like Test 1’s article because it highlights the positive side of how music can be used to teach students”. Helpfultest also stated that it would be essential to look at both aspects of music, and Test1’s article would enable us to do so. All members agreed with the selection of Helpfultest1’s video. We all found it interesting yet disturbing as the adults present in it were seems comfortable with the student’s behavior.

Reflection 1

                                                                        Thematic

My topic is the negative effects of dancehall music on high school student. This reflection will discuss an article, a picture, and a video. Some questions that I want to be answered from the data are, does dancehall music influence youth behavior? If dancehall music influences youth, to what extent? And how can the problem be solved?

The article helped my topic by outlining the negative impact dancehall music has on our youths. The author uses a rhetorical question to express her views. The picture shows that the person with the power to change the content of music focus more on the economy and the video gave me a visual image of what goes on among youths and how dancehall music has corrupted the mind of our youths.

During my research, I have found out that dancehall music is highly influential among our youths and it can hinder them from academic success.

Reflection 2

    Language Skills

In the article titled, ‘The Negative Effects Dancehall Music Has On Jamaican Youths’ standard English was used to present the data. Because of this formal language use, I was able to better understand how frustrated and concerned the writer was when she says that “dancehall culture is commonly disparaged as a homophobic, homicidal, misogynist discourse that reduces both men and women to bare essentials skeletal remains”.

The picture uses Jamaican Creole to present its message. The informal language helped me to understand how music influences youths and how parents are coping with it.

The video titled, ‘High School Kids Dancing Bend Over’ used informal language to describe the piece. It illustrates that children feel good about themselves because they were dancing.

What stands out most for me in the article was how youths gravitate to artists and why all the artists are being arrested. This helped me to better understand the depth to which dancehall music influences society and how dreadful the music can be.

Reflection 3

        Process

The three artifacts that I eventually settled on weren’t that hard to find. It was quite surprising, even though I knew that dancehall music was very influential, I didn’t know to what extent. This research has changed my thoughts and morals towards music and it makes me feel bad because the artists are considered role models to most youths yet they are leading them down the wrong path with their music.

Working in a group on this project left a big impact on me. The group members portray strong and outstanding characteristic in discussing our evidence, I was also inspired by their passion to learn and to get the job done. It was always my preference to work by myself but working with these group members let me understand and learn more about myself.

At the end of this research, I am better able to communicate with my peers and learn time management and self-value.

Oral presentation

                                                            Introduction

My name is Helpful Test; this presentation will be about the negative effects dancehall music have on youths. The genre of my presentation will be poetry and the reason for choosing this genre is because poetry is an art that speaks to the subconscious so I think it can better showcase my point and teach my audience.

The material I researched helped my presentation by showing me how dancehall music influences youths and how they behave when being influenced. This presentation will be done in Jamaican creole; I choose this language register because the audience is Jamaican so they will better understand my message.
