The percentage chart is given here for fractions converted into percentage.

A salesman bought 200 apples and 200 bananas. He found 15% of oranges and 8% of bananas were rotten. Find the percentage of fruits in good condition.

Solution:

Total number of fruits salesman bought = 200 + 200 = 400

Number of rotten apples = 15% of 200

= 15/100 × 200

=15x 200

= 3000/100

= 30

Number of rotten bananas = 8% of 200

= 8/100 × 200

= 200×8

= 1600/100

= 16

hence, total number of rotten fruits = 30 + 16 = 42

rotten fruits

30 apples

16 bananas

Therefore the Number of fruits in good condition = 400 – 42 = 358

fruits in good condition

170 apples

186 bananas

A fruit seller had some mangoes. He sells 40% mangoes and still has 420 mangoes left. Originally, he had how many mangoes?

NB: Let X be the mangoes he had originally.

solution

(100 – 40)% of M = 420

⇒ (60/100)xM = 420

M = (420 x 100/60) = 700
